I probably spend at least four days a week meeting people. Entrepreneurs, Angels, Fellow VC's, Financiers, Advisors etc.
Our dealflow here at EC1 Capital has grown very quickly and now like most of my peers I have little time to read extensive business plans and financial forecasts.
Entrepreneurs should focus on getting to a meeting in the first instance and to start the process of building a relationship with the investment community.
The best way to get my attention and to make sure I can understand your business in under a minute are:
1. A video presentation
2. An animated presentation
3. A five slide powerpoint
4. A business model canvas
5. What is unique about your business
Either 1,2 or 3 will do but 4 and 5 should always be included because in an instant I can see the mechanics of your business.
This type of collateral will allow us to quickly understand your business and pique our interest to want to know more about what you are doing and to understand your motivations.
So, don't send long business plans with spreadsheets, we can come to that at a later date.Tweet
